MPA Advocates for Mental Health Parity to the Federal Task Force on Parity
Thursday, September 22, 2016
Dear MPA Members,
Enforcement of mental health parity is an essential part of our efforts to improve health plan policies for the benefit of both consumers and psychological practice. MPA signed on to this letter with other members of the Massachusetts Mental Health Parity Coalition in response to HHS’ Request for feedback to the Federal Task Force on Parity.
We hope that positive action is taken as a result of our and others’ advocacy on parity enforcement.
Health Law Advocates drafted the letter, and subsequently their Director Matt Selig traveled to Washington DC two weeks ago to testify before the Health Subcommittee of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Congressman Joe Kennedy of Massachusetts requested the hearing, which brought more attention to the parity issue and builds on the work of the Parity Task Force.
You can find more information about the hearing, including Matt’s and the other panelists written statements and CVs at https://energycommerce.house.gov/hearings-and-votes/hearings/examination-federal-mental-health-parity-laws-and-regulations.
Or check out Matt’s testimony on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5ylVDME6Q4 (starting at approximately 50:00. Congressman Kennedy’s remarks which thanks Selig and Health Law Advocates for their work on this issue, is at the 33:30 mark.)
