This workshop will present empirically supported behavioral strategies for promoting weight loss in individuals with overweight or obesity. Specific challenges and barriers to weight loss and maintenance of weight loss will be explored. Techniques reviewed will include self-monitoring (e.g. food diaries, self-weighing, exercise logs), mindfulness (e.g., mindful eating, urge surfing), stimulus control, and relapse prevention.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Describe at least four behavioral strategies with demonstrated efficacy in promoting weight loss and maintenance of healthy body weight;

Develop an evidence-based treatment plan for clients with overweight or obesity and weight loss goals;

Identify and reduce the effect of specific barriers to weight loss, including knowledge deficits, low or fluctuating motivation, and economic and time management challenges.
