This workshop is dedicated to outlining the nature and benefits of group therapy to psychologists, particularly to practitioners interested in learning more about how starting a group in one's practice and collaborating with group therapists are among ways to expand one's practice and enhance clinical effectiveness. Similarities and differences between individual and group treatment will be discussed.

Participants will be able to:

1. Compare the benefits of group therapy with those of individual therapy, including similarities, differences, and how the two modalities can enhance each other.

2.  Collaborate and team more effectively with therapists who provide group work.

3. Understand and implement the steps for starting and maintaining groups that develop, expand and strengthen one's practice.

Steffen Fuller, Ph.D. has been developing and maintaining psychodynamic, support and theme-related groups in his private practice for over 20 years.  His practice also includes individual psychotherapy and neuropsychological and personality testing services.  He is adjunct faculty in psychological testing at Cambridge College and is President-Elect of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy.

Ann Koplow, LICSW has been facilitating groups for 20 years.  She was the director of the group-based Psychiatric Day Program at Lexington's Edinburg Center.  At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Primary Care Practice, she has expanded patient access to behavioral therapy supports with a new "quick response" model of group work that combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, mindfulness, and mutual support.
