Psychologists commonly fail to take advantage of the full gambit of CPT codes that can be used.  This workshop focuses primarily on psychotherapy practice and aims to help psychologists understand all of their coding options.  Dr. Goldberg will provide an overview of the service codes that are commonly underused and help attendees understand when they can be used consistent with American Medical Association and health plan policies. This workshop will focus on the underuse of shorter psychotherapy appointments (90832) and extended psychotherapy codes (90837); interactive complexity (90875); psychotherapy crisis (90839/40); multiple use of diagnostic assessment (90791); and the use of testing in the context of psychotherapy.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Identify CPT codes that are underutilized by psychologists practicing psychotherapy;
Describe the nuances pf appropriate use for each service;
Review specific health plan policies and procedures for using these services;
Review documentation requirements to support appropriate use of these services.
