MPA Diversity Statement |
MPA Diversity Statement (adopted May, 2020)
The Massachusetts Psychological Association values, seeks, and promotes a diverse membership. It is committed to social justice and multiculturalism and celebrates the participation of all psychological professionals, academics, researchers, and affiliates, inclusive of age, creed, race, ethnic background, gender, socio-economic status, region of residence, physical or mental status, political beliefs, religious or spiritual affiliation, and sexual or affectional orientation. MPA also recognizes that we may hold unintentional attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that influence our perceptions of and interactions with others . We strive to work from a culturally humble orientation in all aspects of our professional work. We are committed to increasing our knowledge and awareness of, and our dedication to, all aspects of diversity and the unique qualities of different cultures and backgrounds. We are also dedicated to increasing equity and inclusion among all our constituents and to reflect this in the leadership positions within our organization. MPA aspires to increasing consciousness about aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion previously unseen or unacknowledged in our culture. In this spirit, we are committed to collaborating with historically marginalized groups and/or social and intersectional identities to identify and oppose all forms of oppression and prejudice. MPA implements and adheres to policies and procedures that discourage harassment and other behaviors that infringe upon the freedom and respect that every individual deserves. To this end, we are dedicated to increasing our multicultural responsiveness and sensitivity as educators, researchers, practitioners, consultants, administrators, and policy makers. |
