MPA Mentorship Program Overview and Application Procedures
MPA's Mentorship Program provides an
opportunity for psychologists at any stage of their career to connect
with seasoned professionals to enhance their professional growth. This
program allows psychologists to seek advice, expand their knowledge, gain professional support and explore specific areas of interest under the guidance of a trusted and experienced mentor. Mentors
are psychologists who have amassed specialized expertise, skills, and
valuable experiences in various domains. They generously share their
knowledge and insights to nurture the development of their mentees, empowering them to thrive in their professional endeavors. Program Guidelines: - To participate in the MPA Mentorship Program, all mentors and mentees must be MPA members.
- Applications
are accepted continuously, allowing potential mentees to apply at any
time. Mentor-mentee matches are based on availability and suitability.
- There are no fees associated with enrollment or participation.
- The length of the mentoring relationship and meeting frequency will be mutually determined by the mentor and mentee.
- The
mentoring relationship is NOT psychotherapy or clinical supervision.
Its primary purpose is to facilitate the mentee professional
development.
- The
mentoring goals and specific outcomes for the mentoring relationship
will be determined collaboratively by the mentor-mentee pair. This
customization ensures that the experience aligns with individual needs
and aspirations.
- Participants will complete program evaluations as requested.
The Mentor-Mentee Relationship: The
program strives to pair each mentee with a mentor who excels in the
mentee's requested area of interest. Whether it's professional
development, establishing an independent practice, exploring career
opportunities, managing personal and professional demands, or discovering relevant resources and networking opportunities, our mentors are equipped to provide trusted and thoughtful guidance. At the core of our Mentorship Program lies a sense of trust and mutual respect. Mentors offer their mentees valuable insights, share relevant experiences, and provide constructive feedback. This dynamic relationship plays a role in helping mentees overcome challenges, make informed decisions, and refine their skills and capabilities. Research shows that effective guidance by a mentor plays a critical role in one's career.Well-mentored people are more likely than those without good mentorship to be competent and confident, perform at a higher level, receive better evaluations and promotions, contribute more to their field, and mentor others themselves. Mentoring is an integral part of being a psychologist, and this program provides a wonderful way for senior psychologists to give back to the profession by sharing their expertise and experience and be part of a community. Program Focus: The mentoring relationship does not provide psychotherapy or clinical supervision. Instead, it focuses on fostering the mentee's professional development. Confidentiality or privilege constraints do not bind the mentor-mentee interactions, enabling open and candid discussions. Application Process: The application process is straight forward and user-friendly. Prospective mentors and mentees are requested to complete an application online.
